First of all I admit I have not been writing any blog posts recently I have actually been waiting for my new blog design to be done and it’s been taking longer than expected. I figured I better stop waiting and start writing, so here we are.

Now, onto my confession… that I used to care WAY too much what people thought of me. I was a people-pleaser and I wanted everybody to like me. Naturally I still like for people to like me but thankfully that is no longer a priority. I am much more interested in speaking my truth, being authentic and transparent and making a difference. I leave it to other people to sort out how they feel about me. It’s none of my business anyway.

I have drawn the line in the sand…

If you don’t like what I have to say you certainly don’t have to read it, listen to it or watch it.  

One of the things I speak about that may potentially “offend” people is God. Personally I feel that when it comes to business and making money there is WAY too much ego, greed and power going on and NOT enough turning to God. In fact I feel that is the biggest thing missing in the business world so I don’t plan to shut up about it. I used to be so caught up in chasing the money that I was literally driven by greed. No matter how much I made it was never enough. I was on a path to destruction but that all changed when started turning to God and asking for His guidance.

That is me, that is who I am, that is what matters to me, that is how I see the world. So why should I shut up about it? Exactly… I shouldn’t

I have been saying for some time now that it’s time to stop marketing and start connecting. In fact “connecting” IS the new marketing. If you are connecting with your audience then you are doing marketing right in this social era.

The old way of marketing simply doesn’t work in the social era. So unless you enjoy beating your head against a brick wall I highly suggest you get with the times and start having some fun with this.

The sooner you can get this the more easier and quicker the results will come to you. When I say results I am referring to raving fans who love to buy from you because they trust you and feel connecting to you and your brand.

I want to share a 4  key ways to build the bridge of trust and have your audience feel connected.

#1 Authenticity- Be yourself. Don’t try to put on a front or pretend to be perfect. Some of the people making the most money online look like total beach bums but people love them because they are being their authentic self. It’s refreshing!

#2 Transparency- Let people in on what’s going on behind the scenes. People love to see behind the curtain and know what’s really going on so let them in the door. This builds trust and brand loyalty.

#3 Engagement- Get your audience involved and interacting. Give them a voice. This is the right way to use social media. Ask questions, encourage comments, let them contribute and share (pictures, their favorite ___, videos, etc). People love feeling part of things!!

#4 Speak Their Language- When you are connecting (aka marketing) online be sure to talk to people in the language they want to communicate in. For example, if you are  on Facebook your posts and ads should be the type of content people LOVE on Facebook. As long as you do that you can add your link right in with your awesome posts and ads and no one will feel like you are intruding at all.  On the other hand, if you posted or ran an ad on Facebook  with some blatant marketing message with a link it would not fly and it would damage your brand!

It all comes down to CONNECTION. As human being we want to feel connecting. If you can give your audience a voice, get them engaged, and have them feel connected you will have followers for LIFE.

With that I want to share a BRILLIANT example of this new marketing I am referring to.

This is one of Maroon 5s new songs called “Daylight” where they made several music videos dedicated completely to their fans rather than making it all about them. This is a great example of getting your fans engaged and feeling connecting to a brand Very powerful, inspiring, and most of all a brilliant example of the shift in marketing that is taking place as I write this…

Oh, and notice that people sent in videos from all over the world and even without ANY fancy video editing these videos will have you feel connecting to these people… just a smart phone required LOVE IT!

This week another great article was published by HBR explaining that we are in a new era of doing business called the “social era.”

The social era is much more than just the use social media, it’s a complete paradigm shift in how we communicate with and view our customers and audiences. This has huge implications in our marketing and how we go about business all together.

In fact, in this new social era there are a whole new set of rules to follow. As an entrepreneur marketing your business in the social era you simply must live by these rules.

So what is this social era mean to you and your business?

Marketing is dead? How can this be?

Well, according to a recent article in the Harvard Business Review marketing is, in fact, dead. It’s a powerful article acknowledging what many people already know but most companies and big time corporate executives want to deny because that means everything they have been doing is no longer working (ouch!) . This was followed up by another brilliant article by Forbes on what to do about it.  But this is not news to a select group of people…

You see, the idea that traditional “marketing is dead” is not news to those of us who have been in this new social marketing approach for some time now and getting massive results from it. None the less, it’s powerful that the most respected players in the business world, including Harvard and Forbes, are finally saying it like it is and facing the cold hard truth about marketing. This is a turning point.

Marketing is dead and it’s never coming back…

What does that mean for you and me? That means big opportunity here. The more viral exposure and influence you have online the more valuable you become and the more envied you are by the big name brands that have always been able to dominate in marketing with their big budgets….but not anymore.

The marketing playing field has leveled for good…

You can create a bigger movement, following and influence online with a simple webcam than most of these big companies can even dream of. Anyone, and I mean anyone, who understands how to connect and engage their audience can gain massive exposure and influence online… and it’s happening every day. So while the big guys have been busy resisting facing the truth for some time now…

An army of every day people have taken action and built massive followings and influence online…

For these people marketing is dead is a very exciting news. The tables have turned and now even the people who have tried to deny it all this time are finally facing the reality of it all. The people who have taken action have now become the most valuable people out there not only to themselves (if they know how to monetize it) but also to the bigger companies who have the same target market as you do.

My question to you….

What does marketing is dead mean to you and your business? How does this impact you and what are YOU going to do about it? How are you leveraging this new level playing field to not only raise up in your market and gain massive influence but to also see what role you may play in assisting bigger brands out there who have the same target market as you do?

More importantly, are you in a position to profit from this shift?

The most important thing you can do right now is master the skill of connecting and engaging your audience so you can gain a following and market influence online. You must learn the most critical actions to take to get these results now and build upon it for the years to come.
